Samra Cordic Awarded the Future Lawyers of America Scholarship

When Samra Cordic graduated from college, she was unsure about her future outside of a vague hope for entering law school one day. While applying for her first post-college job in the audit field, she was introduced to a man who would become her mentor: Roberto.

In her winning essay for the Bader Law Future Lawyers of America Scholarship, she wrote about how Roberto had initial reservations about her, somehow sensing that she was simply biding her time until law school.

“Instead of going straight to law school,” Cordic wrote, “I took the job with Roberto, where I reported to him for four years until he was promoted to another position.” During those four years, Roberto took her under his wing, becoming a mentor with whom Cordic could share successes, learn from failures, and encourage future plans.

Cordic, now an incoming law student at the University of Washington at St. Louis, considers Roberto one of the most important people in her life. In an interview with Bader Law representatives, she revealed why.

“I’m a first generation college student and a first generation law student,” she said. “And it was really important that I could have somebody to talk to about school stuff, that I could talk to about careers, that I could really take advice from.”
